“LOAD-BEARING STRUCTURE; ENCLOSING FORM AND SPATIAL INTERPENETRATION. Tectonic construction and its relation to the shaping of space”. Paper, given at the conference: “Tectonics – Making Meaning”, TU Eindhoven, 10-12 December 2007.

Nowadays, the term tectonics stays for “the handicraft” in architecture and the corresponding aesthetic potential of materials. In contrast, this research approaches tectonics – referring to the concept of tectonics of Karl Boetticher and Gottfried Semper – as a specific type of construction, namely skeletal, focusing on the space shaping qualities that are linked to it.
